Our Academic Goals

Greenfield enjoys an excellent reputation in the community. The school’s academic results are outstanding, and many girls go on to high school having won academic and music scholarships to surrounding, prestigious schools. However, our primary vision, shared by every teacher, is to lay strong academic foundations that will equip our girls for further learning with the ultimate purpose of entering the workplace and contributing to our society.

We are equally proud of our girls’ participation and success in dance, drama, art, and sport. This balance in their education allows them to explore and develop various aspects of their lives.

Curriculum

We are a Western Cape Education Department (W.C.E.D.) school and follow the CAPS curriculum as set out by the WCED.

Our Foundation Phase strongly emphasises developing the core skills that will enable future learning. The building blocks of phonics, reading, writing, and numeracy are integral to this phase. Comprehension and thinking skills are valued and taught. The Foundation Phase CAPS curriculum allows us to offer English, Afrikaans, Maths, and Life Skills (drama, dance, physical education, and life skills).

The Intermediate and Senior Phases continue promoting reading, writing and maths skills, emphasising developing more advanced comprehension and thinking skills. The CAPS curriculum allows us to offer English, Afrikaans, Maths, Natural Science, Social Studies (History and Geography) and Life Orientation (drama, dance, physical education and life skills). In Grade 7, the CAPS curriculum adds Economic and Management Studies and Technology.

isiXhosa is offered from Grade 1 to Grade 7.

Learner support lessons, occupational therapy (at the parents’ own cost), and counselling are offered to children who need them.
